CitySwift Climate Action Plan 2025

Introduction

CitySwift recognises the need to address climate change and is committed to a sustainable future. Our Climate Action Plan outlines our strategy to reduce our carbon footprint and promote environmental awareness.

Climate change poses significant risks to the environment and global economy. As a socially responsible organisation, we are committed to sustainable practices and encourage our customers and the public to join us. Our Climate Action Plan is driven by our commitment to innovation and continuous improvement. Our vision is to reduce global emissions from transport while offering an easy, reliable, predictable, clean, and quick solution for everyday travel.

What are we doing now?

We are already working towards a greener future in the transport sector. Our technology platform enables the collection and analysis of large amounts of data across transport networks. This data is used by public transport authorities and private operators to increase efficiency and improve the passenger experience, which leads to increased public transport usage.

By enabling the optimisation of bus routes and schedules, CitySwift’s performance optimisation platform increases the number of people using public transport, leading to a reduction in carbon emissions. As part of our Sustainability Impact Plan we have calculated that CitySwift’s platform reduced carbon emissions by 13,445,558 KgCO2 in 2024. We’re targeting a reduction of 100,000,000 KgCO2 per year by 2030.

Where do we want to be?

Our goals align with our Climate Action Plan:

  • Carbon Emissions: Reduce carbon emissions by helping transport agencies optimise routes and schedules.
  • Drive Modal Shift: Encourage more people to use public transport by continuously improving bus service performance.
  • Promoting Electrification: Support the transition to electric bus fleets by using our technology to inform electric bus route planning.
  • Improving Accessibility: Make public transport more accessible to a wider range of people to reduce the need for car ownership.

Where are we now?

*Based on the carbon emissions reduced by our platform through increasing bus passenger volumes and offsetting car transport, as outlined in our Sustainability Impact Plan, CitySwift has a net positive impact on reducing carbon emissions.

Brief overview of our plan to continue net negative emissions

Our plan for 2030:

  1. Assessment and baseline establishment: Conduct a comprehensive assessment of our current carbon footprint and establish a baseline to measure progress.
  2. Reduction Strategies: Set clear reduction targets and implement energy-efficient practices and technologies.
  3. Offsetting Measures: Continue to offset carbon emissions with our technology by making public transit more reliable and frequent and supporting public transport authorities.
  4. Engagement and Collaboration: Engage stakeholders and collaborate with industry peers to address climate change challenges.
  5. Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and update our climate action plan.
  6. Monitoring and Reporting: Establish robust monitoring and reporting mechanisms to track progress.

How will we achieve this plan?

Reducing emissions

Business Travel:

  • Flights: Minimise and offset air travel.
  • Taxis: Reduce car travel and encourage carpooling.
  • Rail and Coach: Promote these as viable alternative options to car travel.

Hybrid and Remote Working: Encourage flexible working.

Energy Efficiency Improvements: Implement energy-saving practices and upgrade equipment.

Employee Engagement and Training: Foster a culture of sustainability throughout the company.

External environmental actions

We will increase our external environmental activities to help combat climate change. This includes initiatives like tree planting and team-building activities focused on environmental improvement.

What we are already doing to reduce our carbon footprint

Bike to Work Scheme: Encourage cycling to work by providing support and incentives.

Communal Work Kitchen: Reduce energy consumption and waste through centralised kitchen facilities and sustainable practices.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

We are focused on helping achieve the following Sustainable Development Goals:

Rationale
3.6 - Reduce road injuries and deaths
Our technology makes bus travel a more attractive alternative to private cars.
Cars are the number one vehicle type involved in road injuries and deaths.
3.9 - Reduce illnesses and death from hazardous chemicals and pollution
By reducing reliance on private cars, our technology reduces noise and air pollution on roads.
7.2 - Increase global percentage of renewable energy
We support the transition to electric bus fleets by using our technology to inform electric bus route planning.
9.1 - Develop sustainable, resilient and inclusive infrastructures
CitySwift optimises bus networks using big data, improving efficiency and reducing congestion.
11.2 - Affordable and sustainable transport systems
Our technology helps public transit operators improve service reliability, making bus travel a more attractive alternative to private cars.
11.6 - Reduce the environmental impact of cities
By optimising bus networks to ensure they’re delivering more reliable and efficient services, our technology helps reduce emissions and fuel consumption.
13.2 - Integrate climate change measures into policies and planning
CitySwift’s data-driven solutions support cities in reducing their carbon footprint by encouraging public transport use over private vehicles.
