Blackpool Transport renews and expands CitySwift partnership following 90% punctuality achievement

CitySwift, the leader in performance optimisation for public transport across the globe, has announced the renewal and expansion of their partnership with Blackpool Transport, an ALBUM operator member, through to 2031.

CitySwift’s performance optimisation platform has helped Blackpool Transport to achieve its punctuality performance goal reaching its target of 90% across the network. With sustained punctuality goals now met, the focus of the partnership is evolving to prioritise operational efficiency through smarter allocation of resources and cost management.

As part of the renewed agreement, CitySwift’s platform will also be rolled out across Blackpool’s tram network, following a successful proof-of-concept pilot. This marks a significant step in Blackpool Transport’s strategy to optimise performance across all modes and continue delivering reliable, efficient services to its passengers.

Founded in 2016 by Brian O’Rourke and Alan Farrelly, CitySwift’s performance optimisation platform gives operators and transport authorities insights, recommendations, and predictions, supporting the delivery of efficient, reliable and in-demand services. With its industry-leading technology, CitySwift envisions a future where public transport is the travel mode of choice for all people.

Speaking on today’s announcement, Alan Farrelly, CCO and Co-founder of CitySwift, said “This partnership renewal reflects the measurable impact CitySwift has delivered for Blackpool Transport in achieving and sustaining a significant increase in punctuality. We’re now building on that success by shifting focus to operational efficiency, supporting Blackpool Transport in optimising resources and driving even greater value across their network.”

James Clough, Commercial and Finance Director at Blackpool Transport, said: “CitySwift has played a key role in helping us achieve significant improvements in bus service performance, particularly around punctuality. By shifting our goal to operational efficiency, CitySwift provides the insights needed to ensure we’re allocating resources appropriately, enabling us to maximise our bus and tram services for both the business and passengers.”

This announcement coincides with new 3-year partnership deals with Warrington’s Own Buses and Cardiff Bus, two other ALBUM operator members. Both operators will use CitySwift to improve punctuality across their networks, with Warrington’s Own Buses also prioritising minimising early running across the network.
