International Women’s Day at CitySwift

CitySwift is proud to celebrate International Women's Day (IWD) by celebrating the achievements of our hard working female team members.

IWD took place on Monday 8th March, and over the week we showcased members of our female workforce on our social channels. At CitySwift, we believe in acknowledging and advancing the achievements of women every day, and IWD serves as an ideal time to continue to strengthen that commitment.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #ChooseToChallenge, with the idea that a challenged world is an alert world and, individually, we are responsible for our own thoughts and actions.

According to IWD “We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world. From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge.”

To mark International Women’s Day at CitySwift, employees were photographed with a #choosetochallenge quote while raising their hands to show that they commit to call out inequality. Now it’s time to hear their thoughts.

Meet Louise, who is Vice President of People at Cityswift. Louise chose the “I will forge positive visibility of women” card.

“I will forge positive visibility of women.”

“I chose this card because as a leader in my field I have a responsibility to support and highlight the achievements, capabilities and competencies of women in the workplace.

Throughout my career I have been around strong, capable, and supportive women, who didn’t always receive the workplace visibility and recognition they deserved. I was privileged to learn and grow from these women, and I can honour them and their wisdom by ‘paying it forward’.

I am extremely lucky to work at a company where women’s capabilities and competencies are never in question. Our culture supports a collaborative work environment where we all learn and grow from each other, oblivious of gender. I recognise this is not true of all workplaces and it’s one of the reasons why International Women’s Day is so important.”

Meet Vijani, who is a Senior UI/UX Designer at CitySwift. Vijani chose the  “I will inspire women to step out of their comfort zone and achieve their dreams” card.

“I chose this card as I strongly believe that inspiration and motivation can lift women up from a patriarchal society where they are expected to conform to stereotypes.

Even though I was born and raised in a conservative social and cultural environment, I have been lucky to be surrounded by strong women - entrepreneurs, business owners and free thinkers - who always fought for equal rights on many different levels. These strong characters have always been my true inspiration. 

At CitySwift, there hasn’t been a single moment that I felt my opinions were not heard because of my gender. It is truly a comforting feeling to work in an environment where everyone’s opinions are equally appreciated – and to finish each day with a high level of satisfaction.”

Meet Shannon, who is Digital Marketing Executive at CitySwift. Shannon chose the “We will maintain a gender equal mindset” card.

“I chose this card because I believe it is important that one gender is not more dominant over another. We should think of all genders in an equal manner and not have assumptions that one gender is better than another.

This is important to me, as to work in an environment where one gender is considered more dominant than any other wouldn’t be a positive experience. The struggle for equality requires the collective efforts of everyone so that we can maintain a gender equal mindset.

Luckily, CitySwift offers an environment where all genders’ voices and opinions are heard and understood. Everyone works together and we grow and develop as a team."

Meet Sophie, who is Customer Success Executive at CitySwift. Sophie chose the “I will celebrate women’s achievements” card.

“I chose this card  because I believe that it is so important to celebrate all achievements – big or small.

Especially during the pandemic, with its restrictions, lockdowns and a huge amount of remote working, I think a lot of people have skimmed over many milestones which would have normally been celebrated.

However, CitySwift has helped me to enjoy all achievements – both personal and professional. I feel very fortunate to work within a business that values and celebrates both the big and the small things. It is important to me to surround myself with a team and within a workplace where all hard work and achievements are both recognised and celebrated.”

Meet Sarah, who is Head of Insights at CitySwift. Sarah chose the “I will challenge gender stereotypes and bias” card.

“I chose this card because, as Head of Insights at CitySwift, I am a woman in technology and in leadership.

Growing up, I was always interested in physics and maths, and throughout my education I overcame biases and stereotypes about women in those subjects. I am proud to pursue a career I am passionate about; using my abilities to drive the success of my company.

Meet Samantha, who is a Data Analyst at CitySwift. Samantha chose the “I will help forge a gender equal world” card.

“I chose this card as, while the world is becoming more aware and trying to fight gender inequalities, the reality is that women still have fewer rights and opportunities compared to men.

It is important to keep promoting gender equality in our everyday lives as well as in the workplace, as even small actions can have an impact and help create a gender equal world.

CitySwift thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the 2021 International Women’s Day #ChooseToChallenge campaign. We will continue to celebrate women's achievements both within the workplace and externally, and encourage a gender equal world for everyone. Until next year.
