Bus Éireann extends CitySwift partnership to build on 8.1% network performance improvement

Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company, has announced the expansion of its partnership with CitySwift, a performance optimisation platform that helps public transport operators and authorities plan, optimise, and manage networks using trusted operational and passenger data.

Bus Éireann’s five-year partnership with CitySwift launched in 2024, enabling the operator to harness AI-powered analytics and optimisations to improve services for passengers in Galway, Cork, Limerick, and other commuter services into Dublin.
Through using CitySwift, Bus Éireann improved overall network performance by 8.1% from January 2025 to January 2026, and also increased punctuality by 24.8% on Route 404 in Galway. Due to these strong results, Bus Éireann is now expanding usage of the platform to simulate and predict traffic patterns, and the impact of changes on efficiency and resource, to drive further service enhancements for passengers.

Speaking on today’s announcement, Bus Éireann’s Chief Customer Officer, Allen Parker, commented: “We are excited to be extending our work with CitySwift, enabling us to take a data-driven approach to simulating the impact of network changes, speeding up internal processes, and optimising network performance, ensuring we’re continuously delivering a better experience for our passengers.”

Powered by intelligent data processing, CitySwift optimises more than 3.3 billion passenger trips annually. CitySwift’s platform removes obstacles to accessing transport data, empowering teams with rapid and reliable performance insights, recommendations, and predictions that support better decisions for operators, authorities, and passengers alike.

As part of today’s announcement, CitySwift has also partnered with Galway Simon Community to launch a Transport for Ireland Leap Card initiative delivering tangible benefits to the local community. The initiative provides free public transport access to people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness, removing barriers to accessing transport while reflecting CitySwift’s commitment to more inclusive and connected communities.

Brian O’Rourke, co-founder and CEO at CitySwift, said: “Expanding our partnership with Bus Éireann is an important milestone for CitySwift, particularly as it allows us to optimise bus services right on the doorstep of our headquarters in Galway and see first-hand the difference these improvements make for passengers. We’re also proud to be partnering with Galway Simon Community through our Leap Card initiative, reflecting our commitment to giving back to our local community by improving access to public transport for those who need it most.”
